Find the model kit

Here's my use for built up model kits. I mix in one here or there as necessary to round out a collection. In this case I have the 1/144 Topping 880 and 990 but I understand there is also a TWA 880 version out there somewhere though I have never seen it. About 20 years ago I acquired the Microcscale 880 kit (really tough kit to build BTW) and it found a spot in the collection. Note how the clear coat has yellowed. If I knew anything at all about modelling I probably would have used paint/clearcoat that would not have done that!



Anyone know how many different variants of the Topping Convairs were produced? OK, now I have committed the sin of thread creep.

I hope Ladd didn't use Future floor polish as I just bought a huge bottle of it to use on some of my toys........

Actually Future has an excellent reputation for NOT yellowing with age! Most of the "model" clear coats yellow up right away. You can offset some of the clear coats by adding a tiny bit of blue to the mix.

No Future floor polish on those. Back when I would build a model every now and then I would always use an ample amount of Testors clear coat thinking it the best way to protect my decals and I like the way it glossed up silver paint.

About 20 years ago I bought one of Gary Fields' 1/50th Electras. As luck would have it the decals started peeling in months. After having secured a spare set of decals I went ahead and sprayed clear Krylon liberally all over the thing. To this day it is holding up!

Ladd I have 2 of G Fields flying boats, the boeing clipper and the martin clipper, both have the clear coat grazed and decal problems.
Guess I should ask him for decals, got an address?

Future is nothing more than a clear acrylic glaze. Your can of Krylon is the same stuff, but in a can and much more expensive. Future can be applied with anything from a Q-tip to an airbrush. It's super on canopies, and yellowing has never been a problem. It is the preferred clear coat.
The Testors stuff yellows....
