German Busch and Spanish EKO, 2 1950s ranges of built planes

Postby grwebster » Sat Jan 09, 2010 1:02 pm

Michael's mention of the Siku planes brought to mind 2 1950s manufacturer of toys by Busch and EKO, both built plastic manufacturers like Siku.
Nice items but I have not seen any in years. I once bought a store stock of Busch planes and passed the duplicates on to the TPN members, Tone got some as I recall. Anyone know more about them?

The middle row are EKO models as is the top right one. I have also seen kit forms of these EKO models- see last pic

EKO in the earlier boxes, I believe

This is the boxed set of the smaller planes in the later, more common boxes

They made some excellent larger toys of the DC-3 and this one, the Wal.

More EKO - the ones in the large boxes are larger scale, The kit versions in blister packs I found in Argentina

EKO is/was Spanish. They also released just a just a few of their models as kits. I've never seen one! As a small scale modeler I have always wanted to "fix" their WAL but never had the gumption to destroy the little thing!
The Siku, Busch (and hence Lindberg, who released it under their name) Convairs all look just alike, which is to say they have poor outlines. I don't have the Faller 1/100 Convair so I can comment on that item.
The West Germans were hot for the Convair as it was one of the first airplanes to fly under the new Lufthansa banner. On a side note, Lufthansa finally purchased two L1649s from Maurice Roundy and are currently in the process of making one airworthy! That'll be fun!
