I just tried going to Steve Remington's Collectair site only to find it disabled. The store in Santa Barbara is listed as closed as well. Can anyone shed some light onto what has happened?

Unfortunately Steve passed away Last July. I'd enjoyed browsing his website & learned much from it. I was lucky enough to visit his Gallery in person during Oct. '14. He had a great stash of stuff and his artwork was superb! A friend & I spent an hour or two with him and he was a delightful guy. There is a brief obit on the American Society if Aviation Artist's website. He was a long-time member & treasurer.

I had attempted to visit his website a month or two ago & it was gone BUT I just tried again and it came up. Very worth perusing for anyone interested in the history of aviation!

I'm so sorry to hear that. I have often visited that website as it was full of odds and ends, especially for ID models. A loss for our hobby.
As a matter of fact, there have been a succession of loses to our hobby in the past two years; we now add Steve Remington to that list.
We lost our founder and mentor, G.R. Webster almost two years ago. One of his mentors, John Burns, of CVG fame, passed this year. Well known slide collector, modeler and airline enthusiast Clint Groves passed this last summer.
All were important in the formation of "modern" collectors associations like this one.
We now carry on the torch lit by these various founders - especially GR. Webster.
It's important that we enjoy our "toys" while we can - all the while knowing that they are not exactly - toys.

Apparently Steve died last July. I don't have any idea about the dispostion of his goods; it must have been substantial. The website itself was a valuable resource; I wish it had been able to stay up. Here's a link to the Obit:

Hi Everyone -
Steve's website is still active, but clearly it will no longer be updated, unless someone else steps in. Steve wrote to me to say that he had sold his entire collection to the Museum of Flight, in Seattle. Anyway, that's where everything went, and that's why you haven't seen some sort of distress sale on eBay or other auction sites. I don't know who is keeping his site alive. Maybe the MoF?
