Hi All,
I had picked this up a few years back from a client who bought it at an auction in NYC. These were manufactured by small foundries in the UK for all those that were flying out of East Anglia. Normally, these were sand cast in brass as a morphed version of the Y1B-17 with a large fin. This one was different as it featured the tall chromed pedestal and the airplane was "corrected" into a B-17F. I figure somebody in the ground echelon created it to honor someone in their group. The airplane was painted in olive drab with the remnants of a "Square D" on the tail and and a yellow "W" underneath the D. The only plane that included these letters were from the "Bloody 100th" and flown by Robert "Rosie" Rosenthal from NYC.
Coincidence?, who knows! It was enough for me to restore the airplane to its original guise of 1943.
Enjoy,
Tom
