This plane has been in my collection since the early 90s. It dates from the late 1930s and has an 18 inch wing span. A simple key-wound spring powers the model and it still works fine today. Metal wheels ensure no flat spots will ever develop.
I have also seen photos of this toy as a biplane, and with metal two-bladed props. The fragile plastic pinwheels on this example spin very easily with the plane's slightest forward motion.
The plane reminds me of the Languedoc - the airliner that carried a rocket on its back. I am certain Marx did not have this plane in mind when it sold this toy.
