I/D models metal 1/100 ?

Postby fliegerii » Sun Nov 22, 2009 9:39 pm

This week I saw two olive painted Alu models of ME-110 and HE-111, both in scale 1/100.
They were looking like ID models, but I have never heard about a company making 1/100 scale ID models casted in aluminium.

Any idea?

Regards,
Christian

Hi -
I don't know if such models were intended for recognition training, but they seem to have had some military purpose. I have a black aluminum Meteor MK. 8 with a label from Rowley Workshops on one wing, and a RN stores label on the other wing which identifies it as #9236 in some series. It is crude aluminum, with a rectangular hole on the bottom. The hole appears to be lined with copper sheathing. There are UK models having a military usage in all kinds of strange scales, like 1/100, 1/110, 1/135, 1/144, and 1/180, in addition to the usual 1/72 and 1/48 scale models. Did the ones you saw have the same characteristic rectangular hole in the bottom?

It was an Ebay auction (280424132357) without showing the bottom of the model.
My guess is also something coming from UK. The HE-111 is a later type and I cannot imagine the Germans to have used aluminium for manufacturing of ID models, as they restricted the use of this metal for the making of real planes during that time.
