Messerschmitt Bf-109E

Postby fliegerii » Sun Jun 12, 2011 8:04 pm

A while ago we talked about contemporary WW II manufacturer's models. I was stating, that here in Germany only very few are existing and not sure, if ever so many were made.

I have mentioned a Series of models made for Messerschmitt, which were manufactured in Berlin. They are made of a lead cast or a similar alloy like pot. They were obviously distributed to high officials and and for sure most of them just had to go to the Reichsluftfahrtministerium and landed there on several desks.

I had now the (expensive) opportunity at a Berlin auction house to get this extremely well conditioned Bf-109E. It is still complete and has even the inner perspex of the canopy attached. Even though I had to do some minor repairs, I am not sure, if a better specimen is existing anywhere. Size is 25,5 cm length, so scale is prox. 1/32.

If anybody of you has similar models, I would enjoy to exchange some information! At least I remember a Bf-110 of same series!

I may have one similar, I will check in a few weeks. Mine is not well detailed as I recall but a period, wartime piece.
Here is one of your photos which I modified to see more of it

now compare to an 109 E variant in this photo

Somethings are way off to my eye
I see quite a few divergences from the actual aircraft, fuselage profile aft of cockpit, cockpit canopy way off, and perhaps the front profile errors reflect different engines of a different variant? 109c or d ??
Anyway it is not a very realistic model and one may doubt if Willy Messershmitt would have accepted it as a factory model of his design.
No? Just sayin

Messerschmitt contracted model building companies, they did not do this job by themselfes. The post war company working for Messerschmitt was Schaarschmidt being also allocated in Berlin. Unfortunately I do not know the maker of this pre-war Bf-109 model.

Accuracy is difficult to judge talking about a pre-war model. The impression counts, not the details. Willy Messerschmitt was a perfectionist, but I guess, he wasn't interested for a jota in models.... ;)

Chris, I checked and my model is not the same, in fact a much worse attempt. I do I think have the alu prop that went with your model, though.
