Posted: Sat Sep 11, 2010 3:06 amMy first encounter with the toy plane seen below was Bob Strauß's photo of a tailless example in the "DC-3 issue" of The Plane News. I bought this example from a tin toy collector/specialist seller in 2003. It is larger than I had thought: the wing span is 13 inches. It is made of light-gauge tin plate and has a key-wind spring motor linked to stamped metal wheels.
If one looks closely, he will note that this plane looks more like a Boeing 247 than a DC-2. It has lithographed detail and a very odd color scheme: green and orange. The "J Douglas" perhaps simulates a Japanese letter registration system.
