Tomiyama 1956 medium size Superfortress

Postby Tone » Sun Nov 01, 2009 4:18 am

Here is Tomiyama's medium sized (14.5" wing span) Boeing B-50 Superfortress from the 1956 catalog.

It features lots of printed detail and it has the designation BK-027 as opposed to the BK-250 usually found on the larger pale blue toys.

Below the stabilizers is the name "Cragstan" the name of a US toy seller located at 250 Broadway, New York.

Both the nose tail wheel strut assemblies are replacements unfortunately.

Tomiyama 1956 medium size Stratocruiser

These photos of the ET Co (Tomiyama) + Yonezawa Boeing Stratocruiser demonstrate that the toy maker followed the plane manufacturer's lead, and used the B-50 wings / engines / propellers / tail surfaces for the 377 Stratocruiser.

N.B.: There is an all-blue version of the B-50 (not the Stratocruiser) lithographed in American Airlines colors and named "Flagship Pamela." Though it uses this tooling, the trade mark is Line Mar Toys. Year: 1956, same as the B-50.
