Matchbox Sky-Busters: SIKORSKY S-92

Postby Tone » Sun Nov 15, 2009 12:57 pm

This Sikorsky S-92 is a recent release in the Matchbox Sky-Busters line for 2009. It returns to the die cast metal body: many of the series are mostly plastic. Only the rotors and the floats are plastic. The cabin windows are printed on. The design mixes the Matchbox corporate logo with Coast Guard colors - the firm (Mattel) released a set of matching miniature vehicles in the 1-75 range two years ago.

The back of the card reads: "Cutting edge construction, including a twin turbo engine, aluminum airframe and horizontal stabilizer, guarantee smooth and level flight. Added safety features and flaw tolerance has earned the Sikorsky S-92 the name 'the safest helicopter in the world.' "

Re: Matchbox Sky-Busters: ROBINSON CLIPPER II

Robinson Clipper II in orange with floats, a finely detailed casting. It's great to see two realistic 'copters in the Sky-Busters line after those awful designs from recent years. I have also seen a bright green Sheriff version.

Whew...finally getting bach to the MAC...I also found the two new Skybusters at both Target and WalMart. The Sikorsky is marked SB-81. The racer plane very much looks like an Extra 330,is marked SB-80 and labeled "Skyfire". This is the type of plane that was used in that "viral" internet hoax about this time last year - where the plane lost a wing in flight but still landed OK? Remember that one? Brilliant work on the part of the photographers and editors!
Both are marked Made in Thailand which is a change from the typical China. Wonder why?
Matchbox has been continuing to release new metal, which has it's up and downs, but mostly I'll take it. I have no interest in these planes in "toy" colors but then they have given us all these nice B747, B737 and similar in actual airline colors. So - thanks for that!
On another note...CVS has dropped their repacks of the Yat Ming Super Air Force planes. So, no joy for that line. I never found very many and only once or twice the stars of the line, the C130, E3 and B47.

The Robinson is available in either float or skid versions! I checked one of the reg # on the toy and it was assigned to a real Robinson!

Barry, all you have to do is ask for one of the US members to forward what you need. We all did this back in the day of MAQ TPN.
Michael, for one example, was always doing it. Probably still will.
