TootsieToy PAA Set

Postby MichaelB » Tue Feb 04, 2014 6:24 pm

I picked this set up off eBay last. I have always been interested in TT but never collected very many. Thanks to GR I had a few of the transport issues as well as a jumble of loose pieces, mostly later stuff.
However, just the beautiful box is an attraction notwithstanding the lovely Stratocruiser, Constellation and Convair toys inside. Also included (I only received a partial set) are a Bonanza, Sabre jet and boarding ladder. Happily, along with some paint deterioration, the only fault I found was a missing blade on the Convair. Otherwise intact and looking good!
I posed them with my DC-2 and DC-4E.
Again...glad to have the pieces in particular and the box itself, although water damaged.
Can anyone give the date of issue for this set? Since it includes a Convair, it would have to be after 1952.
Michael
PS: Who really, really regrets the loss of GR at time like this...as I have continued to mourn the loss of Jim Galloway, who I note when reporting on WalMart finds - I will now start to post thanks to GR for knowing so much and for sharing the enthusiasm! It was with my regret that I cannot share this set with him...so: Thanks, GR!

Notice the raised lettering.
The box top, after some work on the computer to "fix" it. It has water damage.

I don't have reference book that dates this set.

I've always admired it, but never tried to acquire one since it is conspicuously lacking a helicopter!

The #4310 Pan American Airways Set on the other hand...

This set came in a couple different variants. Unfortunately, I don't know the release date for this set either!

Here's a photo of mine below:

Nice set!
The addition of the 707 means it was released after 1958, most likely, 1960.
My older set, judging by the Convair, would need to be 1952 or so. I couldn't find any copyright dates anywhere. That said, it's a lovely set with the Connie, Strat and Convair. Only one blade is missing and I'll be working to fix that!
Thanks
Michael

The Pan American Airways set is dated 1958-1959.
The Pan American Airport Set is dated as 1951-1953.
Thats from Greenbberg's Guide to Tootsietoys. As you see the Airways set is issued for a short time and came with 2 variants,to keep collectors busy(different colors on the models).
The helicopter is a beauty from the set, rotors were mtal where later ones came with plastic.

Great info! Many thanks!!

Could ask for you to tell me the date of release on the Tootsietoy #4320 Rocket Launcher Set?

This set came in a number of variants and also featured that same beautiful Sikorsky S-58 (but it was green in color).
