Helicopter Toys Made of Wood

While I am not an authority on the subject, I would hazard to say that the first toys ever created were made of wood.

I guess it should come as no surprise that a number of helicopter toys have been fashioned from wood as well.

While the tradition of using wood to create durable toys continues to this day, this post will focus on a few of the interesting early wooden helicopter toys I've acquired.

I'd say the most well-known wooden helicopter toys are made by Fisher Price.

The Mini Copter No. 448 is pretty iconic since it was produced in very large numbers around 1970:

The Happy Little Helicopter No. 498 was made much earlier by Fisher Price (starting around 1953) and is much harder to find:

The Woodette toy company made at least three different popular helicopter toys that I've seen. One is completely made of synthetic materials, but two used wood.

I believe the first version with the wooden rotors was made in 1944-45.

The second version with metal rotor blades be seen in 1946 advertisements.

I like the clever packaging which provided kids with their very own helicopter hangar.

Here's the Enterprise Novelty Company (ENNOCO) Sky Car---Aero Car toy:

The toy is marked AH 12-8 Sky Car and has removable rotors.

This "Coppy" the Happy Helicopter toy is more child-like. It was made by American Pre-School / Noma in 1962-63:

Walter Marshak made a separate version that's marked "Helicopter" on the side, but looks more like a gyroplane since it has a wings, a main rotor and a propeller.
