Helicopter Toys Featuring Animals

Postby hovermd » Sun May 08, 2011 6:49 pm

I'm going to start a new post on helicopter toys that feature animals in the design or as part of the litho.

These toys are often pretty "campy" and lack the realism that we usually focus upon. But, they do remind that most toys were made to capture a kid's imagination and be FUN!

Here's my first contribution. It's a German-made "Circus" helicopter by N.B.N. of Nürnberg, Germany.

Here's the earliest known helicopter toy by Nomura (Modern Toys) of Japan - it dates to 1952 according to Modern Toys of Japan by William C. Gallagher:

hmmm ... I thought Masudaya was Modern Toys ?

Then again, there is a 1930s toy sea plane by "Japan Alps Toy Co" and most history books say Alps was formed in 1948 - so maybe different companies could sometimes use the same brand name?

In this case, the mistake is MINE. Masudaya is synonomous with MT (Modern Toys). Nomura is actually abreviated TN (Nomura Toy). Sorry for the error, MACers!

Here's one that has Walt Disney rolling over...

This one was made in Japan by HTC (Hishimo) and is called the "Bark Bark Helicopter."

Does it remind you of a certain group of dogs, say 101 or so in number!?

101 Dalmatians Helicopter. That pup I see climbing up to the rotor had better watch his head.

I never knew HTC was "Hishimo." I hadn't been able to find what the letters stood for. I only could figure the "TC" part probably stood for "toy company." This is the brand that made the "Cragstan" Spirit of St Louis, the excellent P-47 and P-51 and also the Spitfire that is the same as the "Empire Made" Lincoln brand Spitfire. Great stuff.
