How is the Caravelle related to the DH Comet?
I was reading an article today and learned something that had bothered me for years.

Hint- look at these two images:

Same cockpit windows if not the same cockpit design altogether.

That was quick.
Turns out the Caravelle cockpit was not just a copy of the Comet's it was built under license from de Havilland that way, same interior too.
I had often wondered about that, and just thought it was 'inspired' by the Comet.
It is quite nice on both aircraft. The Nimrod was a military version of the Comet 4 and just recently stopped flying.
I had the opportunity to fly in the cockpit of a Caravelle from Paris to Switzerland one night standing up just behind the pilots, from start up, taxi take off and landing. That was before Mr D.B. Cooper, of course.
One of the most memorable flights I have ever made. No clouds anywhere over europe that night, full moon too.

There are some stories about the Convair 880 flight deck windows installed in the Canadair "44" - imagine, being designed for a sleek, fast pure jet and getting demoted to cargo-hauling prop jet!

I've read that too...about the CL-44 using the CV jet cockpit window layout. In fact, I only found out a few years ago that some '44s had the Britannia windscreen!
