MAC Meeting In Houston October 18th

Postby MichaelB » Wed Sep 03, 2014 8:01 pm

Again this year, in conjunction with the Airliner Collectibles Show at The 1940 Air Terminal Museum at Hobby Airport, we will endeavor to meet and trade stories and adventures in the world of Miniature Aircraft Collecting! I have attached the flyer for the show. Hobby (HOU) is easy to fly into and the hotel will provide bus transport to and from the airport, hotel and the museum as needed. There is a modest discount for attendees staying at the show hotel and I would encourage you to do the same. Supporting this show makes it easier to have another one next year!
Last year we saw attendance from most of the collectors in Texas and while that was nice, we'd sure like to see some of you others. Sadly we cannot promise of provide the kind of comeraderie that GR Webster provided over the past decades, but we can guarnatee that you will spend a few nice days amongst fellow collectors and enthusists.
Last year we shared an after show dinner together and I'm certain that will happen again this year.
Since this is a "Collectibles Show", it's also an opportunity for you to sell your excess stock or even pick up some new pieces. Please contact the table vendor (Duane Young) as shown on the show flyer.
We are always looking for enthusiast collectors who might want to entertain the notion of doing a "presentation" during or after the show - if you have something special to share. For instance, last year Danny Samuels brought some new Shapeways 1/200 pieces in for examination. The rest of us present shared items from our collections and generally had a good time!
I am looking forward to doing it again this year and hope that y'all can join us!
Please contact me directly for more information if needed and please distribute the show flyer as much as possible!
Michael
PS: This show also has the unique ability for visitors to fly in directly to the Museum! If you have access to light aircraft simply fly to Hobby Airport and request the Museum Ramp from ATC! Your aircraft can remain on our ramp for the duration of the show plus there are a variety of FBOs on the field.
PPS: Since the Museum is at Hobby Airport you can also fritter away time watching airplanes! :)

This is a reminder that the Collectibles Show in Houston is coming up on the 18th! Several MAC members will be there - including me. This is an opportunity to meet and greet - sell and buy - in a nice location.
I'll add the flyer for the show below - again - if you have any questions, contact me. If you wish to reserve a table - contact Duane Young as shown on the flyer.
It's going to be a long weekend!

We are getting ready to attend! I'll be taking some of my Argentine collection for the "show and tell" event.

Wendy & I will be there. I'm always interested in picking up old kits or models, if any of you have any duplicates or unwanted kits/models, please bring them, there might be something I may want (eg. old WWII Russian Flying Boats, a C-47/DC-3, Ryan STM, etc.) . Looking forward to seeing you all again. And, by the way, Michael, I made a donation, did it go through? Bernie

Yes, Bernie, it did. Thank you!
What kind of old kits are you looking for?
FYI...among other endeavors I moderate a Yahoogroup by the name of "Scale Modeling Nostalgia". In it we discuss classic kits, paint, glue, memories, ephemera, insights and more.
For that I do collect old plastic model kits - unbuilt! ...and I do have a substantial collection (and more in the mail at the moment BTW). GR was prudent to exclude "plastic kits" from MAC - he also excluded other toys, like dolls!
There are a number of us that cross over this line, here at MAC. My favorite kit from my childhood is the Mongogram "Air Power" kit, PA56, from 1959. It consists of 18 1/240 USAF airplanes and it's quite nice. By it's nature it crosses the line into "toy" airplane collecting since it has a scaled set of collectible toy airplanes inside (some assembly needed).
For me that cascaded into a variety of other related fields including 1/200 (HBM, Viking, Hawk and etc), "Cereal" airplanes and "promo" or giveaway airplanes as well as the general category of "small" airplanes like the DynaFlites.
So...Bernie...what are you looking for?

Hi Michael,

I'm interested only in the 1:200 scale resin and metal models and kits. Particularly the Beriev Be-4, Be-6, Be-10 and Chetverikov MDR-6; Henkel He-59 and He-60; Aichi H9A; Ryan STM; Supermarine Sea Otter; CAMS 37, Loire 501 and Centre NC-470, etc.

If some of those turned up at the meet, I will be a very happy camper!!

Best,
Bernie

Bernie...I must say I haven't even heard of those pieces!
Let's hope something interesting turns up...and if not...we'll still have a party!
Thanks for your support!

You all missed a good "mini" MAC meet in Houston this past weekend. Tacked onto the Airliner show, it was a good venue, fun things to look at and people to chat with. Additionally, those few of us who did attend, had a great get together and "show and tell". We met to share and to dine. Packed a lot into the day, had a lot of fun. Hope to see more of you next time, it was worth the trip. Bernie

Well, as Bernie said, we (Bernie + Wendy Snyder, Christian Gandolfo, Michael Bludworth and myself) had a great time discussing models. I will put up some posts with photos.

To begin, Christian showed a collection of unusual models, all from his former home, Argentina.

Here are Michael, Wendy, Christian, and Christian's models:

Models only:

Have you ever seen these before?

I will leave it to Christian to identify them.

Christian and Bernie regard Bernie's 1:200 craftwork:

Potez 452 from Ron Crawford's HBM line - strut assembly scratch built, model was assembled upside down - upside down wing taped to tile and assembled thereon.
Sikorsky S-58/H-34 Choctaw from Chris Sayer's SHED Models - converted to amphibian - float assembly scratch built.
