This Boeing 314 Clipper image is part of a Brooks sneaker display at Dicks Sporting Goods store near me. It shows a person apparently jumping from this luxurious airliner, which has "Run Happy" on the bottom of one wing. Perhaps he was dissatisfied with Pan Am's service. The whirling propellers look overpainted.

Do you recognize this particular plane? It's not one of the original photos from the 30s so it must be a new or recent toy or model. When I looked at the details (the black lines) close up, they appear to be similar to those seen on some of those modern retro-looking display models (painted wood or perhaps resin?).

I have a friend who is a professional photographer for advertising images and showed this to him. He confirmed that it is a model or even a toy (deep panel lines) and the technique used was to photograph the model upside down on a Green Screen so that other images such as the jumper could be simply photoshopped into place. As he says, "They used a rather pedestrian technique" to get the image created for the poster.
