Stripping Dinkies with Caustic Soda

I have a couple of Dinkies a Tornado and a Phantom that I am restoring and have read somewhere that a good way to strip the paint off diecast toys is with Caustic Soda. Is this correct can anyone advise on the best way to do this ? What strength the solution should be and how long the model should be left in the solution? Hoping someone can help.
