The first was N3503E, a single-engine Aeronca 11 AC manufactured in 1947. On Sunday, April 28, the TV news showed the thing sticking out of the ground, dark blue and white. Despite its age, it was equipped with safety belts that saved the pilot's life.
The second pilot wasn't so lucky. He died when he crashed his Grumman G44A Widgeon into the Hudson River. Rescuers took over a day to find the wreck. I didn't know there were any flying around here.
