I've showed these photos around a little but can't match the plane definitively to a known aircraft although it really appears to be a representative model. Tom thinks it most closely resembles a DO-19 and that's as close as we can get, but if anyone out there knows better, I'm curious to know.

It resembles the Japanese G5N Shinzan as to its main cabin and the angled wings, though why anyone would immortalize this failed experimental bomber in this manner is a mystery to me.

Yes...When I saw the engraved cockpit frames, I thought Japanese...the 4 Shinzans built were apparently put to use as Navy transports which perhaps explains the side windows...the vertical tails seem a little fictitious. The Shinzan was supposed to be influenced by the 'DC-4E' sold to the Japanese ( and the model has wing planform and and outwards cant of the engines like the 'DC-4E' ) Can't find any reference to any Douglas bomber project using the DC-4E wing in Francillon's McDD Putnam or 'Douglas Propliners' though you'd expect them to play around with such sketches.
