Here are the results of my “winter” project in which I took the best parts of two dilapidated Sanchis Harriers to restore one to its former glory and give it a new paint scheme. I wanted to pay tribute to the original AV-8B and was fortunate enough to obtain some original photos from McDonnell Douglas detailing the 1978 prototype color scheme for the YAV-8B (BuNo. 158394) MD took an existing AV-8A airframe and modified the wings with the larger Harrier II design, but I didn’t have the skill set to modify my plastic Sanchis wings so it’s not completely accurate. Interestingly enough, this particular aircraft survived all of it’s test flights and was then donated in 1984 to NASA Ames Research for V/STOL studies and is now on static display in Huntsville, AL outside the US Space and Rocket Center.
