Spanish Aircraft Toys, Tin and Plastic. EKO list.

Postby ramseyd » Sun May 22, 2011 4:13 am

On the EKO planes, you are missing the harder to find DC-3. I have also attached a list of the EKO variants (a few came with disks as propellers, others with props, also color variations). All are pre-assembled with decals. Each comes in a cute little box; the Wal in a lovely larger box, and the DC-3 in a plastic tray. Assembly is pretty rough. A stand was included. The DC-3 was also issued as a kit from Starline in the US several years ago. My list may be incomplete, so if you know of another variant, please let me know. I suspect there may be a few more with disks, just have never seen them.

EKO list.
5001 NA F-100-C silver, green
5002 F-84F silver
5003 Me-109 silver, dark green, light green
5004 Me-110 silver, green camo

Dennis, didn't realize you collected toys in addition to your identification models.
I don't know of many people in the USA who have those EKO toys.
I do have the DC-3 , it was misplaced in the garage!

Spanish Made Hurricane and Comets

Postby Tone » Sun May 22, 2011 5:32 pm

grwebster wrote:Now a big question, Why did they make a Hurricane? It never flew in the Spanish Air Force before, during or after WW2.
Same question with the de Havilland Racer. Why then would a toy of this aircraft be a good idea? It did not fly over Spain during the race and I don't think any ended up there afterwards either.
Do you Spanish friends have any ideas?

Not only did Rico make the prop job DeHavilland Comet, it also made the Comet 4 jet in BEA colors - using the same tooling as Japan's Yone-Ya (SY Brand) only painted not lithographed. I can remember seeing two of them "Mint with Rico boxes" at the Rochester show in the 90s, ruling out their being customized, and thinking "I have the lithographed one, why would I want a painted one."

Regarding the Tin Hurricane, I was using the Ron Smith and Frédéric Marchand books for reference as I don't have this plane and I've never seen it for sale at a show. That's why I was requesting more information, it's a great looking toy model. I would agree that a version with roundel insignia decals would be a custom, but Marchand does shows a blue one on p 77 of Avions-Jouets 1945-1970 with the exact same spray-painted Spanish "X"s as the silver one.

I was told it was by Rico and the JYE SA Hurricane is smaller, but they look identical from the photos.

Great model my friend...

There is the other version of the Jyesa Hurricane, that is posible to see in some webs. (I think is customized by owner)
