C-120 Pack Plane

Postby Tone » Mon Dec 07, 2009 4:12 am

Here is one of my nicest tin planes, a Fairchild C-120 Pack Plane. It is realistically-modelled and has lots of printed detail to enhance its appearance.

Unlike the real thing, the pod is not detachable. Both clear clamshell doors are intact. The two small tin vehicles are missing.

My example bears the "Nikko Gangu Kogyo" trade mark but other collectors have called it by different names.

The red color looks "splotchy" but the real plane does not have discoloration. There is some factory touch-up above the clear doors.

Did they really need all those crew members on the flight deck?

My C-120 Pack Plane was missing it's nose door so I pull stretched one out of acrylic sheet. One vertical tail was missing so I split the remaining one and made new inner surfaces from tinplate, & props needed 2 new blades

It's showing signs of surface rust now 10+ years since the photo...must have polished to hard!!
The only real one was a pig to fly without the pod according to its pilot

Very reminiscent of the Sikorsky CH-54 Tarhee; a very cool helicopter!
