More Diecast Redos

Postby Epap » Sat Jul 17, 2010 6:37 pm

Thought I'd add some more pictures of diecast warbird redos or modifications. The first is a Franklin Mint ( CDC Armour ) 1:48th scale F4U that came with no weathering or chipping and red bordered stars and bars when the real plane sported the later insignias---without the red outline. Here's how the plane looks after my treatment:Image

Here's how a 1:87th scale Japanese Claude fighter looked as I received it. There are major gaps on the spine of the model and the wing roots. Also, they had misaligned the striping near the tail.Image

This is a redo of a Japanese Tony in 1:48th scale by Marushin. The model came in a bare metal finish with no weathering or chipping. I changed all of that:Image

Here are two Hobby Master Brewster F2A fighters in 1:48th scale. Both are complete repaints because HM insisted on using overly dark colors on its models. The one on the stand is a well weathered Battle Of Midway machine and the one in the wheels down mode is a duplicate of the same model painted in an early WWII scheme:Image

This is a Carousel 1 BF-109E-4 in 1:48th scale that has been completely redone as a BF-109E-3 in Condor Legion colors from the last stages of the Spanish Civil War. This required the fitting of an E-3 canopy instead of the E-4 canopy that the model, which sported a typical Battle Of Britain scheme, carried:Image

Here's a Corgi Russian Front HE-111 in 1:72nd scale that came painted in pristine white on its upper surfaces. I simulated the white flaking off in many areas and added some weathering and staining to give the model a more realistic look:Image

Finally, here's a Carousel 1 FW-190D that came with very bad mottling---sort of like polka dots on a tie--- and other small faults. My mods, here, consisted of repainting the fuselage sides and tail and putting in new mottling. I also carried over the under surface colors on the leading edge of the wingtips, added some weathering and a bit of staining.Image
