Tootsie Toy Props

Postby MichaelB » Thu Jan 30, 2014 5:27 pm

I'm about to replace the broken props on my TT DC-2. The shafts are just pins that have been hammered into the metal, yes? Will they come out and will they go back? Also, the old props are "black" and the news ones are "silver"; what's the best way to darken them?
Can anyone recommend a better way to repair the props...?
Thanks
Michael

Michael,

On those Tootsietoy props...

1) To darken- use any flat or satin black paint, I have had good results using Testors.

2) The shafts are just nails and can be pulled out and the placed back in place. You can add some glue to the existing hole with a toothpick for extra insurance. Layer a piece of wax paper between the engine front and the back of the prop's hub area. Let the glue dry one day and then rip it away. Props should spin easily.

I have added shots of those new props installed. Both were for other collectors whom wanted aluminum bosses on the prop shafts.

Thanks for that...I figured that was the case.
I"ll yet MAC know how it goes.
BTW...my DC-2 came from GR Webster, so it has special value.
