The first edition of a new and essential reference book for airplane toy collectors, especially vintage toy collectors and Dinky Toy collectors is now available covering every aircraft toy produced between 1934-1979 with well over 500 photographs.

Written by ‘GR’ Webster with contributors John Beugels and Sir George Cox. The introduction is by Mike Richardson,
The Book is dedicated to Sue Richardson.
‘GR’ Webster set out to continue to build on and share new information on these aircraft toys in the fine tradition of Mike and Sue Richardson, and the other pioneers such as Leslie Jackson, John Marshall, Alan Dimmock, John Beugels, Derek Barratt, Patrick Trench, Jean-Michel Roulet, and Jacques Dujardin.
The book covers all the Dinky Toys aircraft produced in Great Britain and France starting in 1934, continuing during the prewar period, reissued during the early postwar period until 1948, the 1950s releases, and finally through launch of the ‘Big Planes’ range in the 1960s until the demise of the firm in 1979.
Each aircraft is described in a monograph consolidating all the details of the aircraft toy in one section with photographs of the toy, a full description, reference number, scale, production dates, casting details, many of the variations produced, other named toys using the same principal casting, along with a brief review of the actual aircraft selected by the Dinky designers.

Having arrived home just this morning after a long international flight I found my copy of the subject book waiting. Needless to say, I read it cover-to-cover before I could sleep. I was absolutely "gob smacked." This is what dreams are made from!

After purchasing the Richardson book so many years ago I thought it possible to find an example of every plane pictured in that book and in doing so I would have a complete Dinky aeroplane collection. After reading GR's tome I realize that quest would have been pure folly. Now I am happy with my representative collection and this fine book to satisfy all of my Dinky plane desires.

The collecting world should be thankful that GR gave up drinking, smoking, chasing women, flying airplanes, and playing poker to finally devote his energies to putting this fine book together! Well done, GR.

Now it's off to the garage to repaint all of those duplicates I've been storing now that I am aware of so many variants!

Thanks for the kind words, Ladd, but I didn't stop Poker! The book did take one year to do and makes me wonder if I will do any more.

Received my copy yesterday and the book is a beauty, large landscape, glossy pages, many photos of very rare Dinky Gift sets, and individual planes.. The book is 80 pages and costs $106.00 plus postage.
That being said it's worth it. Why buy the book was asked? Simple-for the information in it.Starting from the first pages it is well written, the pictures and captions tell the Dinky story, then progress to the various planes with each variant listed and pictured where needed to tell the story. From the start the info in it is primary source material, from peopple who not only know and collect Dinky Toys but also know airplanes. A few errors, like a Ju-87 model listed as a Ju-89 and the DH Comet as the "first commercial"( jet is missing),proof reader errors only.
Be sure to go to the blurb site and see mamy of the pages in the bookand go to Google and do a blurb coupon search for a nice discount on the price.
A nice surprise is the many French Dinky planes, and how some of the French planes were created from other planes(and pictures),and a listing for the Zygon Maruder in the book and the Marklin Do-18. Why are they in there? You'll have to buy the book.

TOM,
Thanks for pointing out those typos, there were others and just yesterday I made a new edition available that has those older typos and some minor editing corrections applied. {The publisher has however increased the price for this new edition by 10% -no new pages!- so I don't think it is really worth it to get the slightly corrected one. I am trying to get them to reduce it.}
I will include your corrections for the next edition including new information and photos, if.....and ....when.
Typos are very hard to eliminate, I have read the manuscript at least 30 times, have also reviewed and corrected two previous, private-for-proof-reading-only hard cover editions, yet they creep through undetected. I have also used a professional editor, and two technical proof readers yet we all miss some. Frustrating.
If anyone wants the later edition, go to
http://www.blurb.com/bookstore/detail/2149202
I like the google coupon idea, I never heard of doing that.
The book will be reviewed by two well known aviation magazines so far, Aeroplane Monthly {UK} and Aviation History {USA} so hopefully we can get more people interested in our hobby.

Hi G.R.,
I really enjoyed the book for sure, hope the reviews in the mainstream magazines get people interested.
Most of the booksellers.Alibris,Abe ,and other retailers do the online coupon bit-they expire, then a new one,so I tired Blurb,a few free shipping ones, but if your a first time buyer they give a nice discount to get you into buying from them, NEWBLURB was the code if anyone here is interested.
Good luck,
Tom
