been very busy, these past few months. second to last in this present series,
'The Merger........' as it came to be known. Enjoy!
on April 1st 1979, the New Zealand Government merged the two state owned air carriers, NAC and Air New Zealand.
the Godwit on the fin was replaced with the Koru and 'wings of the nation' the catch phrase of a very successful marketing campaign, was replaced with 'air new zealand' in teal
both of the serperate airline's previous logos (stylised Godwit and Teal) were displayed under the side cockpit windows
but the 'Koru' (symbolising new life and growth) indicated at a glance, despite the different livery colours, the unity of two entities.
also merged, the respective pilots' seniority lists. which was to cause resentment and bitterness for many years to come
this restoration was so arduous and the decals broke up with only the slightest pressure, i bought another decal sheet with the intention of starting again. luckily at the 11th hour, realised the replacement sheet was the wrong scale, so persevered
ZK-NAC as it was in merger livery, Wellington Airport, circa 1980.
ZK-NAC in three of its liveries
colours; black, white, silver, grey, red, polished metal. decals (except passenger windows) Aerocolor Graphics, San Bernadino CA.
