These were made using original postwar Dinky Toys aircraft castings modified by John Alcott of the UK starting in the mid 1980s. Some purchasers wanted the original Dinky Toys cast-in markings left as is, others wanted them removed. Much of his later work was signed and numbered, but he never did any in great quantity, may be only 10 copies of some

John modified the French Dinky Constellation to represent the EC-121 H, R7V-2, WV-2 and even a TWA Connie. He also converted some British Comet castings into the Nimrod MR MK2s, and Nimrod AEW 3s.

Very hard to find today and expensive back in the day, they add a uniqueness to a Dinky collection.

BTW, John went on to collaborate with Victor Bailey and start the Veteran and Vintage Aircraft Series in 1/200 scale in aluminum. Of these the B-36 shown elsewhere on the forum { viewtopic.php?f=8&t=851 } was an exceptional effort. This series did not last long but the quality was exceptional.

that's stunning. my TWA effort pales in comparism, although it was an early restoration attempt and as such, wouldn't redo it.

was keen to do one in US Navy livery, but the castings are too expensive to restore now.
