Unknown Grumman

This one just sold on Ebay and the sellor identified it as coming from the estate of an ex Grumman exec and admittedly it looks like a Grumman design but I can't positively identify it-I'd really like to know what it is.. It has SM10X on the side of it.

I see simiularites with the Banshee F2H aft of the wing, but Grumman was not into a swept wing designs at that point and had moved to full 'bubble' canopy glazing. The final version known as the Cougar was quite different.

The stand looks very similar to other Grumman model shop stands I have seen. Also the project number on the side and shading of the windows help its identity of a factory model.

The flag on the vertical tailplane has the Italian colors, and SM10X might be a never built concept from Savoia-Marchetti, just my WAG!

Cristian, I thought the same thing but SM didn't survive the war as an aircraft builder, they mainly went into trucks. They did make a piston trainer but no jets.
BTW I never saw a flag on the model.

Thanks guys! I knew you'd be able to satisfy my curiosity! I wish I'd bid more on it now. Now if I can only get that chronology of Pastushin models.....
