Douglas DC-9 promos
Tody (November 29th) makes the service entrance of the Douglas DC-9 in 1965. Delta was the launch customer.
Of note are the large number of little promotional models issued by Douglas for the airlines to "give away" to customers and in-house.
This 3" x 3" little model usually comes in white, or cream with only the Northeast issue being in another color: yellow.
So far I have identified the following as being issued.
Delta
Tran Texas Airways
Texas International
Continental
Eastern
Southern
Ozark
TWA
Bonanza
Northeast (yellow)
Allegheny
Allegheny Fan Jet
West Coast
Air Canada (un-confirmed)
A Douglas factory model? Well, yes - and no. I'm confident that Douglas shopped out the item to the usual suspects: Comet, Cruver, Hawk or similar.
If you have any insights - please post them here!
Michael
PS: I am pleased to have all three of the local boys: TTA, TI and Continental! Currently I only need the West Coast and Allegheny to complete my collection!
