Convair XYF Pogo model

Postby alumtube » Tue Jul 23, 2013 1:15 am

I have this model at home of a Convair XFY Pogo.
Looks like it was made entirely ( or at least the body ) of Plexi/actylic material.
Length is 9 1/4".

Trying to figure out maker, I know Bob Dros makes very nice detailed Perspex models and it a member here.

Any idea, anyone, about maker?

Well, I could have done it, but I didn't! Looks like a Topping, but I only know Topping Pogos with blue painted canopies. They usually made clear canopies, didn't they?

I once saw Larry McLaughlin's collection. He showed me a Fairchild Provider model of a Japanese modelmaker, I think Nemoto. It was made of plexiglas, like my models, and pretty much like this Pogo. Please ask Larry, he might know more.

I had another person suggested Nemoto as well.
Have half of a dusin of them, there is definitely some similarity in them, just did not know they made planes of plexiglas as well. Mine are resin and wooden ones, all of them have a few metal parts, just like this Pogo.

Thanks again.

Nemoto models did not have plexiglass cockpit windows, they were painted blue, at least all of the ones I have owned and seen.

Just for information I have been told that Nemoto was not the maker of the models, but was a hobby shop in Japan. He took orders many from USAF and other personnel serving in Japan after WW2 and during the Korean War and had someone make the models.

Here is another idea as to who made the model: there was a gentleman in the USA making excellent and expensive models to order that used plexiglass in the 1990s. His name i believe was Hall. I saw a Grumman HU-16D Albatross that was superb.

Solido and Mercury made nice diecast examples of the Convair.

I love 'em!
