MIG 21 Model 1:20 scale

Postby alumtube » Thu May 03, 2012 5:05 pm

Got this Mig 21 in 1:20 scale a couple of months ago ( nice and big ) Just don't see to many Eastern type airplanes and most of them are not to nicely done.( at least my opinion ) This one is a beauty made of some type of black resin. Pitot-tube and nose inlet-cone was missing and I had to make them. A 12" piece was missing on left horizontal stab, repaired as well. It came on a stand that had a ( ugly ) wooden base, so I made this acrylic base for the stand as well. Will keep the wooden piece just in case it is original. So that is my question, anyone familiar with these models? Maker? Did it come with wooden base on the stand?

The metal rods you can see in the pic are the original one.
The base was a plain wooden one. The new acrylic base I made has exactly same shape/dimensions. Russian models often used acrylic ones.
Just got a Mig-19 from same source, in same markings also in 1/20 scale. It needs some restoration work and a base, will post a pic when completed.

I think they were made by an east german company that also produced the ID models for the ex GDR. Perhaps it is/was a ID model. I have some blanks that are nicely detailed and they are also in strange scales. The company was located in Leipzig and the model where made in the 70s. You don't find many of this id models.
